Likes moist soils.
Is highly palatable.
Provides a good 'bottom' to sward.

Uses for Rough Stalked Meadow Grass

Useful inclusion for horse paddocks on moist soils due to its palatability and its growth habit. For agricultural purposes it may not be considered high yielding compared to the rygrasses at the levels of Nitrogen generally used on horse paddocks the difference will not be so significant.

Physical Characteristics of Rough Stalked Meadow Grass

No auricles
Obvious pointed or rounded ligule
Shoot slightly flattened.
Leaf blades smooth above and below, with a groove either side of central line on upper surface .
Leaf blades "boat shaped" (shaped like the bow of a boat)at tip.
Stems may feel rough near base.
Stolons often present.
