Very winter hardy
Tolerates low fertility
Low mineral content
Mature herbage is extremely low in digestibility and crude protein

Uses for Timothy

Useful in cool wet conditions on peaty or heavy soils.
Useful early growth on uplands.

No auricles
Round shoot
Obvious pointed or rounded ligule
Leaf blade gently ribbed on upper surface, smooth below.
Inflorescence - dense panicle, could easily be mistaken for a spike, cylindrical ( giving rise to the common family name of cat's tail).
