By long term rotations I am looking at a plan covering more than one year with the aim
of reducing the parasite levels, as in that illustrated below.
Here horses will be grazing reletively clean land that has not had horses on it for two
years. Any benefits from this will be lost if a suitable worming programme is not being used. The parasitic worms
that concern as horse owners are species specific i.e. they cannot live in species other than the horse. Therefore
grazing cattle or sheep will be effective in cleaning up the paddock.
This type of long term rotation of grazing has obvious benefits but horse owners do not
always have sufficient land.
